Masks avoid the transmission of the virus. They protect the others from our aerosols and droplets.
1. Surgical mask: they protect us enough if used properly and if everyone uses them. They only last for 4 hours and they must be thrown away, they can’t be used. If we keep on using them we can infect of bacterias, viruses and fungi that grow in them because of humidity and warmth.
2. FFP2 and FFP3: masks offer the higher protection, but they are mostly useful for healthcare workers, wich use them in places (hospitals) where the aerosols are very very small. For everyday life they do not suppose a higher protection.
3. Cloth face masks: we must choose those ones that are UNE 0065 certified. This ensures that they protect us against the virus and they do not need filter, the cloth itself filters the particles. They must include a label with information of use and how many times can we wash them. They are reusable (if we wash them everyday) more ecologic and long-term more economic. Cloth face masks must be washed everyday with water hotter than 60ºC and soap. We must not use alcohol or hotter temperatures because they can shrink the mask or spoil the cloth.
